How to Set Up the Credit Expiration Reminder Email

Unused referral credit is a missed sale for you and a missed reward for your customer. The credit expiration reminder email nudges customers before their referral credit expires, so they have time to come back and use their remaining balance.

When the reminder is sent

This email only applies to store credit issued through Referi. It's sent when two things are true:

  • The credit can expire. In Apps > Referi > Referrals, the program's store credit expiration must be set to Expires after a set period. Credit that never expires doesn't need a reminder.
  • Reminders are turned on. In Apps > Referi > Settings, tick Automatically send customers a reminder before their referral credit expires and choose how many days before expiry it goes out.

This article covers how the email looks and what it says.

Open the email editor

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Referi > Customization.
  2. Under Referral reward emails, find Credit expiration reminder and click Set up.

Tips for a reminder that works

  • Make the deadline clear. Mention {expiration_date} in the heading or wallet text so customers know exactly how long they have.
  • Show the amount. {credit_amount} in the subject line tells customers what's at stake before they even open the email.
  • Keep it friendly, not pushy. A helpful reminder builds goodwill. Customers will appreciate not losing their reward.
  • Use your own reply-to address. Make sure customer questions reach your team.
